Studio Food Photography – Mushroom Filo Rolls

blog filo mushroom roll_5359

As I have been doing a bit of food photography as of late, I thought it was time I share a few images on the blog and start adding them to the portfolios.

This image, of mushroom filo rolls, was taken in studio, but lit to create a sunlit effect. One of the challenges of food photography is being able to show the details without the image being too flat. I think this image strikes a nice balance.

There will be a few more food images coming up as the past couple of weeks have involved shooting strudel and fruit, photography that is delicious.

Falling Water – Big Hill Springs Provincial Park, Alberta, Canada — Debra Hunter – photography & art

Big Hill Springs Provincial Park provides an abundance of beauty. Falling water and bubbling brooks at every turn. An oasis in the middle of the prairies. Those following this blog or visiting the website may have noticed I have been adding a few landscape images here and there. I am currently planning to redo […]

Orcas – Galiano, BC, Canada — Debra Hunter – photography & art

Sometimes nature provides you with amazing subject matter. A chance sighting of orcas off the coast made for a wonderful opportunity for photography. Two adults and one small whale played off the coast of Galiano (BC, Canada) for a few minutes before swimming off. It is always exciting to see a dorsal fin in […]

Father and Son in Black and White

Portrait of father, son and tattoos in black and white.

Dad, baby, black and white, and tattoos. As I shot this portrait I could hardly wait to see the final image on my computer screen. The contrast between the baby’s new skin and the decorated skin of his father, plus the contrast in the lighting made for an artful portrait. It is always interesting when photography crosses from documenting a face into art.

Black and White – A Portrait of Togetherness — Debra Hunter – photography & art

Sometimes the strength of an image is in the details. Yesterday I was editing this photography shoot and came across this image. I noticed what a strong image of togetherness this image was when cropped tightly. Timeless coupledom captured. Winter Portrait, Black and White

Winter Portrait

As spring is just around the corner, I thought I would show one of my favorite winter portraits while the snow is still on the ground. Reflecting my current preference for shooting, the image is in timeless black and white.

I find myself returning more and more to black and white, returning to the style of photography that made me fall in love with the medium. Perhaps this is how it often goes. We start out in photography for love, then twist what we do to meet our clients needs in order to make a living, but in the end we find we need to return to the style of shooting we love. It seems I am slowly completing that circle, black and white is coming to the forefront plus an interesting (non-commercial) project in its infancy. Stripping away all the fakeness of photoshopped images in their over-processed ways, and going back to the basics, photography is becoming interesting again.
